1923
Founded in Johannesburg
Jamiatul Ulama South Africa was established in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, by a group of dedicated Ulama with the mission to serve the growing Muslim community and preserve Islamic values in South Africa.
1950s
Expansion & Growth
The organisation expanded its reach across the Witwatersrand, establishing Maktabs, providing social services and advocating for the rights of the Muslim community during a turbulent political era in South Africa.
1980s
Advocacy & Community Leadership
JUSA played a pivotal role in advocating for justice, issuing landmark Islamic rulings on social matters, and strengthening the Maktab education system across South Africa.
2000s
Digital Era
Embracing technology to serve the Ummah better – launching online fatwa services, a digital publications library, and expanding outreach through social media and web platforms.
Today
Serving 100+ Years Strong
Today, JUSA continues to serve as the authoritative Islamic body in South Africa, providing Fatwa services, social support, Halaal oversight, education and humanitarian aid to thousands each year.
